About Us

The CBPS is a Society registered under the Societies Registration Act. It is also registered under the FCRA with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It is also registered under section 12A(a) and is recognised under Section 80 G of the Indian Income Tax Act 1961. The latter was recently renewed by the IT department after scrutiny.

The Governing Board:

CBPS is run by a Secretary, who is also the ex officio Executive Director of CBPS. The Society has a Governing Board consisting of the President, Secretary, Treasurer, 3 other members and a representative of the staff , who are professionals in the field of research and development. The Board meets 4 times in a year. It plays an important role in monitoring the progress of the projects and providing valuable inputs for further work. It also advises the Secretary on matters of staff and administration.

The current Governing Board :

  1. Dr S. Rajgopalan , President: Dr S. Rajgopalan is an engineer from the IIT Delhi, with an MBA from IIM Bangalore and a PhD from the IIT Kanpur. He has worked with the Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, and is the founder Chairman of Technology Informatics Design Endeavour in Bangalore.
  2. Dr.Poornima Vyasulu, Secretary: Dr Poornima Vyasulu, a science graduate from Bangalore University did her MBA at IIM Bangalore and earned a PhD in Management from IIT Delhi. Her area of specialisation has been human resource management, and she ran Praxis- Consultants in Human Resource Systems. She has been consultant with agencies like the World Bank, HIVOS, NOVIB, CARITAS, DANIDA, and Action Aid etc. She is co-ordinator for the project on Reproductive health in two districts of Karnataka. She is also deeply interested in Kannada literature, theatre and the role of media in social change.
  3. Dr. Veerashekarappa, Treasurer: Dr. Veerashekarappa is with the RBI unit at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore. His research interest included decentralised governance, public finance and policy, and at the ground level issues of water supply and sanitation.
  4. Dr. S. Sadanand, Member: Dr Sadanand is with the IDPMS society. He has worked in a number of projects aimed at providing livelihood options to the rural poor especially in Karnataka. He has worked closely with a number of SHGs in rural areas and has wide experience in issues concerning them.
  5. Mr.N V Krishna, Member: Mr Krishna currently a Director with a private sector Company providing computer networking and wi-fi services is a graduate of IIT Madras and IIM Calcutta. He started his career with the KSCST and interacted closely with the ASTRA, the rural technology Centre at the IISc. His areas of interest includes construction of budget data bases and their use.
  6. Dr. B.P. Vani, Member: Vani is a statistician teaching at the Institute for Social And Economic Change,Bangalore.
  7. Dr.Sreelakshmi Gururaja, Member: Dr.Sreelakshmi Gururaja worked in UNICEF in different capacities and retired as UNICEF Representative in Guyana. She lives in Bangalore.

The academic work of CBPS is presented to an Academic Council before being published. The Academic Council is chaired by Dr. K.S.Krishnaswamy, who retired as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. Experts in different fields are invited to participate in its deliberations. Till now, we have had Dr N.C. B. Nath, Dr V.M Rao, Dr Abdul Aziz, Dr N Sivanna and others take part in these deliberations. This Council meets at least twice a year.
